Walking through the Galleries of Nashik’s Savana Museum

About the walk

The Sarvajanik Vachanalaya Nashik (Savana), or Nashik Public Library has a long tradition of 178 years. A major feature of this library is the Museum section, which is very old, housing many rare items of antiquity. The Savana Museum is a must-visit for historians and researchers. It also conducts efforts to conserve rare manuscripts and paintings. Many ancient idols are in the museum, along with a cave with a quadrangular statue made of black stone, a wheel, a conch-shelled Vishnu, paintings, sculptures, weapons, writing materials, coins and other historical objects. The Peshwa gallery also has a panorama famous by the name of the Nasik Ragamala. A unique collection of 33 types of 33 statues of Ganapati can be found in the Bapat gallery. Overall, the Savana Museum is the cultural treasure of Nasik.
