IHWF 2020

One of India’s key strengths lies in its myriad and diverse culture that has helped it find a unique position on the world map. It was the need to celebrate this cultural heritage and make it accessible to everyone that led to the inception of India Heritage Walk Festival (IHWF), a month-long festival led by Sahapedia. The festival has completed two editions and has also received the PATA Gold Award 2018 under Heritage and Culture category.

Ranging from museums, historically significant monuments and markets, explorations of interesting natural landscapes and areas known for their rich cuisine, to gender-oriented narratives, the programme is curated thematically. The festival is made multifaceted and as inclusive as possible, by targeting diverse user-groups. Led by locals, experts, scholars and researchers, the events will not just tell stories, but also help one discover, learn and experience the vibrant heritage of India. However, the festival goes beyond it’s indicative name to organize baithaks, workshops, Instameets, Twitter chats and Insta Tours.

The past editions saw events led by eminent professionals and scholars like Sohail Hashmi, Esther David, political cartoonist E P Unny, historian Parvati Sharma, Dr. George Michell, Ratish Nanda, artist Vinu V V and Author Tony Joseph. This edition of IHWF works towards a collaborative approach, and invites organisations and individuals to host events with us.

Moulshri Joshi

Moulshri has spent 15 years to the study of industrial heritage in India and Asia. Question of documenting, interpreting and reusing post-industrial landscapes and its intangible heritage is central to her work. Moulshri represents TICCIH (The International Committee for Conservation of Industrial Heritage) in India, is the Coordinator for National Scientific Committee on Industrial Heritage (NSC-IH) at ICOMOS India and is an Advisory Board Member, Asian Heritage Network. Moulshri is an architect and academic and leads the acclaimed design practice SpaceMatters in New Delhi.

A PhD in Management, Kavita Gupta is also an explorer. She is a heritage enthusiast and believes in discovering cities in a way that is doable, sustainable and responsible, besides creating memories. Her infectious enthusiasm and endless energy allow her to keep discovering her city despite her academic and corporate commitments.

Avani Varia

Avani Varia, hailing from a traditional potter’s family of Gujarat, admires the great culture of her home country and its rich legacy of arts and crafts. She was formally educated in India in numerous aspects of design and teaching and subsequently received her MA in Arts and Heritage Management from London. She has initiated and managed collaborative international projects with education, research, design and tourism to safeguard Heritage and Arts apace with sustainable income generation.

Sangeeta Singh Bais

Sangeeta Bais, an alumnus of the School of Planning and Architecture, New-Delhi (1999), she has immense working experience in conservation spanning for over 18 years with several national and international organizations such as the National Centre for Safety of Historic Structures (NCSHS) IIT Madras, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), UNESCO and UNDP. She has written books and articles on building lime which include “ Lime manual for conservation works” with NCSHS, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and “ Why use lime” published by INTACH UK trust. She is presently conducting research on Cultural Spaces of Chishti Dargah of India, stone craftsmanship of Mughal monuments.
