Sahapedia celebrates its 450th Walk
Most of us know of Secunderabad and Hyderabad as twin cities. But unlike Hyderabad which is known for its Nawabi culture, Secunderabad, which is much younger (founded around 1806-07), was one of the biggest British cantonments in the entire country.
One of the best ways to understand the history of Secunderabad is through its churches. The Church of St. John the Baptist, for example, is the oldest Christian place of worship and a major landmark that was established in 1813. It is also one of the few places that still has a functioning pipe organ that is used every Sunday during service. Similarly, the St. Mary’s Basilica in the same vicinity has its own interesting tale of the Irish Catholics who built it. Come, join us for a walk as we visit two of the oldest landmarks of Secunderabad.
