The mesmerising Pichola lake is known for its beauty and its history. Interestingly, it is not a natural lake and was built by a Banjara (gypsy), Picchu Banjara, in the 1300s. He diverted water from a tributary of the Kotra River by building a dam across it.
The walk will begin at Ambrai Ghat, situated at the edge of Lake Pichola, which connects to the beautiful Swaroop Sagar bridge. It will then proceed to Gangaur Ghat (or Gangori Ghat), which is the main ghat situated at the waterfront of Lake Pichola. It is named after one of the most popular local festivals of Udaipur called ‘Gangaur’.
We will then visit the Baghore Ki Haveli museum, and also attend the Dharohar folk dance show held here. The palace has over 100 rooms, with several displays of costumes and modern art. The interiors, with frequent usage of glass and mirrors, are done in the Haveli style. The walk will continue through several interesting locations including the temples, art shops, havelis, and other architectural buildings in the old city. With myriad colours in every corner, the streets of Udaipur resonate ethnic cultural energy.
The walk ends at Jagdish Temple located in the complex of the City Palace of Udaipur. This temple was constructed in 1651 in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture, with decorated ceilings, painted walls and lush halls. The serenity and architectural magnificence of the temple cannot be captured in words.
