Traditional Handicraft and Handloom - Empowering Women

About the walk

This Women’s Day, let's explore some of the best textile traditions: handlooms and handicrafts at RS Krafts, Hyderabad. Kalamkari print on knitted fabrics, vegetable yarn-dyed handloom, leaf painting, natural dyeing, etc., are traditions that are slowly fading away due to lack of patronage and support from the other stakeholders of the society. The artisans, particularly women, are not in a position to sustain and promote these arts and crafts on their own.

This walk will take you through the processes involved in the making of these exquisite textiles, right from the procurement of the material to the finished product. The handloom and handicraft industry is on the decline but proper appreciation and patronage will take it to another level. There will be short demonstrations on each of the crafts. Participants can interact with the artisans and get their doubts clarified.

This guided tour is free.
