The Qutb Complex is a site that has been witness to the long history of the Sultanate rule. Bearing the mark of many rulers- from Qutb ud-din Aibak, Iltutmish, Alauddin Khalji to Firuz Shah Tughlaq- this complex features multiple monuments that represent the splendor of Indo Islamic architecture.
The Qutb Minar, which is one of the tallest minarets in Asia, along with the Alai Darwaza, the Iron Pillar of the Gupta dynasty, the tombs of Iltutmish and Alauddin Khilji, adorns the masjid-i-jami popular known as the Quwwat-ul-Islam (Might of Islam) mosque.
Believed to have been named after Qutb ud-din Aibak of the Mamluk dynasty and dedicated to the memory of the Sufi saint Qutb ud-din Bakhtiyar Kaki, the Qutb complex tells a far nuanced story than simply being symbolic of Islamic power in the subcontinent. This walk intends to unveil that colorful history, focusing on the Sufi element and modern history of the site.
