Join us as we explore the series of heritage buildings symbolic of Mahatma Gandhi’s decade at Sevagram village, with their past and present usages and significance. The walk will take us to the least known second home of Gandhi (after Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad) which he built by himself with the help of his followers not only to initiate the self-service movement in Central India but also to respect the typical Indian village architecture. Initially Gandhiji’s preaching centre in 1935, the Sevagram Ashram complex today organises multiple activities such as Khadi kapda production, and houses a museum showcasing Gandhi’s life. It also has a primary school for the children at the village, a meditation centre, etc. Our journey will end with the interesting shopping centre at Khadi Bhandar and the organic food centre owned by the villagers themselves.
