Remembering the Heroes of the Independence Struggle at Nana Rao Park

About the walk

The First War of Independence in 1857 laid the foundation for Indian freedom fighters to oppose the British Raj. The war began in Meerut and spread to other cities of Uttar Pradesh like Kanpur, Lucknow and Prayagraj. Under the leadership of the brave Nana Sahib and Tantia Tope, Kanpur became the centre of the revolt, leading to massacres at Satichaura, Bibighar and Boodha Bargad.

Join us on this walk through Nana Rao Park, where we will learn about the First War of Independence and how freedom fighters paved the way for further revolutionary activities that ultimately led to our independence in 1947.

This guided tour is free.
