Rajarani Temple - A Jewel of 11th Century Kalinga’s Architecture

About the walk

The Rajarani Temple, roughly dating back to the 11th century, represents a unique experiment in the Kalinga style of architecture. While all the temples in the city end with the name of 'Iswara', this temple’s name seems quite unique. A walk through this temple will let us witness the nuances of the temple building school that existed in the eastern part of the country. It is an architectural jewel of the Nagara style, carved in Kalinga’s chisel and hammer. The walk will also reveal the mystery behind the vacancy of the Garbha-Griha and the hidden story behind the name 'Rajarani'.

This walk will explore the golden age of the ancient period of the present-day capital city of Bhubaneswar, reveal the uniqueness of the Kalinga style of architecture, and the legacy of the dynasties that are responsible for making the city a hub of our heritage.

This guided tour is free.
