The Mysterious Ahoms - A Walk Among the 900-Year-Old Ruins

About the walk

The story of the Ahoms, the grand old dynasty of the Brahmaputra valley of Assam, is one that has had many shifts. From its beginnings in the 13th century, to the 19th century when Assam was annexed by the British, the Ahoms shifted their capital many times. This walk will explore their 18th century capital of what was known as Rangpur, now marked by remnants of their legacy, including the royal palace, Talatal Ghar, and a spectacular tank called Joysagar. Come, join us as we listen to the stories of how this dynasty originated from China, establishing its imprint, successfully resisting the Mughals and other kings, and finally giving Assam its name.

This guided tour is free.
