Megalithic Bridge at Thlumuwi

About the walk

The megalithic bridge consists of stone slabs, which are supported by tall stone pillars across the river of Um-Nyakanah. It is said to have been built by Mar Phalangki and U Luh Lyngskor Lamare under the order of the Jaintia King when he had shifted his capital from Sutnga to Nartiang. Hence, this bridge was constructed to carry out trade and communication between the two places.

It has been said that one of the stone slabs was broken by an elephant. But the megalithic bridge still stands strong today and is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India.

Nearby to the bridge are the Muwi waterfalls, which make it an incredible destination for history and nature lovers.

This guided tour is free.
