The first European township in India was built as a fort city when the Raja of Cochin gave it to the Portuguese. A hundred and sixty years later, the Dutch came and left their imprint, after which the British overthrew them and transformed the fort into an open town without walls. The colonisers propagated their language, religion, and culture, leaving a huge impact on the small tourist town.
This walk will take you along the remnants of the fort, through the streets with its fables and stories of how life was for the different people who lived here.
Some of the highlights of the walk include the iconic Chinese Nets, St. Francis Church, David Hall House, Dutch Cemetery, Old Lighthouse, Bishop’s House and Santa Cruz Basilica.
This guided tour is free.
