Hidden amidst the concrete jungle of Mumbai, Ambarnath proudly flaunts its prized possession. Literally meaning 'Lord of the sky', Ambarnath is the site of a very old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dating back to the 9th century, this temple is one of the finest examples of the unique architecture of Maharashtra.

This temple is not only a feast for the eyes, but is also a structure that especially interests history and architecture students. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, he appears to be the main theme of the carvings. The temple also embodies Hindu mythology in each fraction of the structure.
