Gujari Mahal is one of the famous archaeological museums of India situated in Gwalior. It was originally a palace built by Raja Man Singh for his wife, Mrignayani. The queen was a Gujar, based on which the palace was named Gujari Mahal. In 1922, the palace was converted into a museum by the archaeology department. Now it houses 28 galleries and almost 9000 artefacts from the 1st century onwards. Precious stones, jewels, terracotta objects, weapons, sculptures, paintings, inscriptions, pottery, etc. are displayed here. The spacious collection of sculptures in the Gujari Mahal Museum also includes the world's famous Shalabhanjika Yakshi. There are some photographs of the Madhu and Dhar areas of the city which are 75 years old. There is also some evidence about the life of Tansen (the great musician of the 15th century). The museum is a must-visit for Indian historians and lovers of history.
