A Tale of Assam’s War History

About the walk

This event is ticketed.

In their 600 year long reign, the Ahoms of Assam have encountered several battles. This walk aims to allow you a glimpse into their rich history and richer spirit of the people of Assam.  We start with the fierce battle fought in 1671 at Saraighat against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The Battle of Saraighat introduced us to Lachit Barphukan, a valiant and unsung hero under whose excellent leadership it was won. The ignominious defeat of the mighty Mughals is embedded in popular memory for all eternity

.We will end our conversation and the walk at War Memorial facing the very scenic Dighalipukhuri pond. It houses memories from wars that Assam has gallantly fought,  including the Second World War.

Join us as we meander through these lesser-known facts and honour the heroes of our       land.
