Sufis and Stories of Misrigunj

About the walk

One of the most prolific districts of Hyderabad is Misrigunj. This elite district of a bygone era is a cluster which starts from Mehboob Chowk (Clock Tower) near Charminar. On the trail, we will walk past the bustling murgi market, entering the royal colony of the Paigah family, known as Shah Gunj. Here, we will brush past the Palace of Iqbal-ud-Dowla, walk across the Fateh Darwaza area and enter the lanes of Misrigunj, which house the dargah of Hz Yahya Pasha (Rh).

Finally, we will end the walk at the world’s tallest medieval dome at the shrine of Hz Shah Raju Qatal Hussaini (Rh), who was the spiritual guide for the last Qutub Shahi King, Abul Hassan Tana Shah.

This area is called Jaha Numa, and is one of the oldest areas of Hyderabad.

He has a profound knowledge of Hyderabadi Tehzeeb, Heritage, and Sufism which he has learned from a very early age at his home. He is an experiential Educator and uses deep facilitation techniques to bring alive experiential history through narration and experiential pedagogy. This year was also a featured speaker at the Hyderabad Lit Festival and curated a talk on "Adaab e Paandan" About Sufi Trails…

Please Note

  • Parking facilities are difficult to find. Drop in early and find a bylane to park in, or use public transport. Parking facilities for two-wheelers can be easily found.

  • This walk is around 2 km with plenty of stops.

  • As we will be visiting religious sites, please dress accordingly. Headscarf is a must for women. Footwear needs to be removed at the entrance, so please wear accordingly.

  • Please carry drinking water and snacks (if need be). 

  • Expenses on travel or food are to be borne by the participant.
