The Story of Calcutta - A Walk Around BBD Bagh

About the walk

As we walk around the pretty tree-lined streets of Dalhousie, or BBD Bagh, as it is known today, we will go back in time to the days of the Raj - when it was called the 'second city of the empire'. It was during this time that Calcutta was the capital city of the jewel of the British Crown. With the first offices, first courts, first police and several other firsts, the story of Dalhousie and of Calcutta is the story of modern India. Witness the grand buildings, churches and way of life of the very European Calcutta and learn how the city came up, why Charnock is referred to as its founder, and why the area is now listed as a Heritage Zone. This is a tour of a grand colonial city.

This guided tour is free.
