A fine post-lunch Sunday stroll which involves learning about the architecture and culture of Dighalipukhuri and reliving its past is just the call of this afternoon. The prominent vicinity of Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati bears witness to iconic structures such as the Bungalow of the Chief Justice and the prestigious Cotton College (now Cotton University) that stand as a testimony to the architecture of colonial Assam. This architectural style was an offshoot of the traditional style of building as a response to the region’s climatic conditions along with conserving the aesthetics of the regional architectural styles. A brief visit to the Dighalipukhuri Lake will also uncover the rich history buried in the depth of its waters.
Knowingly or unknowingly, our culture is a part of our daily lives. So, being closer to our cultural roots is an elemental step in the development of native architecture. We will commence our walk at the Assam State Museum, exploring the various artefacts ranging from the settlements to the handloom of the region.
Join us as we take these detours filled with interaction, fun and discussion regarding the current state of the region's traditional architecture and culture which has almost become oblivious. It is time we narrate these stories once more.
This guided tour is free.
