Situated in the cantonment area of Meerut, the Augarnath Temple has great significance as the first war for Indian independence, the Revolt of 1857, began from here. On 10 May, 1857, the Indian citizens took an oath at this location to secure freedom from the British. The temple also has cultural significance—the legend goes that the Shiva linga embedded in the temple emerged on its own.
Join us on this temple walk around Meerut and get to learn about the beginning of the revolt of 1857, why this temple is also known as 'Kali PaltanTemple', the saint who asked the Indian soldiers to destroy the British Army, the significance of Shiva linga, and temple architecture in India.
