Gwalior is honoured to be known as the Land of Music. There's a local saying in the city that even a child at birth cries musically here. It has music in its roots. Gwalior has given birth to some of the greatest musicians of our nation: Raja Mansingh Tomar, Mian Tansen, Ustad Nathan Pir Baksh, Pandit Shankar Rao Pandit, Ustad Nissan Hussain Khan, Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and the list continues, making the musical strings of Gwalior immortal.
Tansen Tomb or Muhammad Ghaus Tomb is situated in Gwalior and is one of the most beautiful gems of the city. Muhammad Ghaus was the master of Mian Tansen and a Sufi saint beside whose tomb is the tomb of the legendary vocalist Mian Tansen. The premises also house the tombs of the family members of Muhammad Ghaus and is a pilgrimage site. It is a beautiful piece of architecture and has huge lush green well-maintained gardens.
The annual Tansen festival is held here in the months of November-December, during which prominent musicians from all over the country perform classical shows.
