Khana-i-Khazana - Ahmedabad Food Walk

About the walk

Commonly known for its vegetarian thalis, farsaan and mithais, Ahmedabad is also famous for its lip-smacking non-vegetarian food joints. Based inside the walled city, recipes from these restaurants go back centuries. The stories of these recipes travelling from the Middle East are what makes these dishes all the tastier. We shall start the walk at Lucky Tea Stall introducing ourselves over a cup of tea among the dead (tombs), and walk towards the Bhadra Fort. We shall taste some sweets at Mansuri Halwa and stop by at Bera Samosa to try out their famous mutton samosa, chicken dana and kababs. We will then move to Irani Cafe to taste the famous maska bun. Post that, we will walk through Bhatiyar Gali covering Paramount, Nishat, Zam-Zam, Akbari, Haji and ZK Fries. Taking a small break at Gandhi Cold Drinks, we will move towards the Kalupur Tower and explore the lesser known street food in the area and also explore the art of making and selling kites which thrives in the area. We will end the walk at the 70-year-old Noorani Bara Handi to taste the 12 types of gravy available here. These eateries have been fulfilling the wishes of all the non-veg lovers of Ahmedabad for almost half a century now.

Come, join us as we rediscover the untold stories of these Mughlai traditions in the narrow lanes of the oldest part of the city.

This guided tour is free.
