Dhubri District—the gateway of western Assam—had a glorious past as it was an important administrative centre under British rule. It was also a place where different ethnic groups mingled, giving it a unique cultural heritage and historical background. Language, art and religion flourished in the area because of the processes of migration and assimilation of various races, castes, and creeds. Today, traces of this splendid heritage and culture can be found in the remains of majestic colonial-era buildings that greet one at every nook and corner of the historical town.
