During the 14th century, Mattancherry was a bustling centre that attracted many traders. These included the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, the British, and so on. These traders often tried to impress the Kochi rulers, to build a good relationship with the kingdom. Mattancherry was an important stop on the trade routes, and facilitated the trade of spices and other commodities. The town is a mix of many cultures--people from all over the world came and settled here. Today, Mattancherry attracts many tourists who come here to explore its rich history.
In this walk, we shall visit several locations, such as the Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, Ginger Museum, Police Museum, Jewish cemetery, remains of the Synagogue of Kadavumbhagam, etc.
