Chini Ka Rauza - Abode of a Mughal Minister

About the walk

Humans always look for peacein the lives that they lead, as well as in death. History is replete with stories of burial remains of people with grand stature, and Chini ka Rauzaa forgotten tombs of the Mughals, exemplifies this peace.

It also offers the perfect antidote to the crowd and chaos of the nearby renowned monuments of Agra. Somewhat timeworn and unkempt, this Persian-style funerary monument is an example of long-gone styles and architectural design.

On this walk, we shall explore the quiet and serene atmosphere of this little-visited riverside tomb of the scholar and poet Shukrullah Shirazi Afzal Khan, ‘Allami’, who served as the chief minister of Emperor Shah Jahan. We shall also learn more about Islamic funerary architecture and coloured glazed-tile decoration, and indulge in some sketching at the end of the walk.

This guided tour is free.
