Celebrating International Women’s Day - The Iconic Tie and Dye

About the walk

Tie and Dye is an ancient craft of Gujarat. Also known as 'Bandhani', the tie and dye art of treating textiles is universal, with many ingenious versions scripting new genres. The technique of resist-dying by binding the individual parts of the cloth to shield them from the dye is usually known in Gujarat as Bandhani. The Bandhani of India and 'Shibori' of Japan, both began centuries ago and held a unique identity in the evolving fashion of their cultures. Festive occasions are incomplete without the finer works of bandhej, the technique of which is almost parallel to the Shibori technique of Japan.

On this Women's Day special walk, the artists Smt Praveena Mahicha and Naytri Soni will demonstrate the process of traditional and ancient craft, Tie and Dye. During this walk and workshop we will explore, witness and understand the entire process of making Tie and Dye with organic colours and explore Tie and Dye and Shibori products too.

This guided tour is free and is a physical tour.
