Sir Cecil Beadon, a Lieutenant Governor of Bengal (1862-1867), previously had a street, a square and a row named after him. At present Beadon Street has been divided into two parts and renamed into Abhedananda Road and Dani Ghosh Sarani. Beadon Square was renamed into Rabindra Kanan. Only Beadon Row’s name stays unchanged. However, old habits die hard. Beadon Street is still known by its old name, just like Park Street still goes by its old name rather than Mother Teresa Sarani.
The stretch from Beadon street to Nimtala is dotted with nooks and crannies whispering historical anecdotes. Several historical mansions stand tall on this route. Did you know Aurobindo Ghosh delivered a speech at Beadon Square in 1909? Or, which legendary wrestler practiced in a gymnasium located in the area?
Walk with us to find out about the histories this road has witnessed and be a part of it.
