A Heritage Walk and Storytelling Session at The Humayun’s Tomb

About the walk

This event is ticketed.

One of the grandest representations of  Mughal might and grandeur in Delhi, Humayun's  Tomb is an architectural marvel. Built in the memory of Humayun, the second emperor of the Mughal Dynasty and was commissioned during the reign of Emperor Akbar, Humayun’s tomb is another gem in the long list of historical sites that the city of Delhi houses.

It is precisely because of this reason, that understanding the significance of the location and architecture of the tomb becomevital. T     his walk will delve into questions like why was the tomb constructed where it is and what did the space in and around the tomb signify to the people who built it? The mausoleum complex houses tombs of other important people besides Humayun in its vicinity (the famous thirteenth century Chishti Sufi Saint Nizam-al Din Awliya, and others like Abdur Rahim Khan-I Khanan, Isa Khan, Adham Khan, etc). We will also talk about the time of the tomb’s construction i.e., the 1560s, and study the impact of the Mughal Court under Akbar on the architecture of the monument.
