Gothic Pune - A Confluence of Cultures

About the walk

Under the reign of the Marathas, Pune reached its peak in terms of wealth and grandiose. However, the city also houses some picturesque structures built by the British in the Gothic style of architecture. Over the years, these buildings have become such an integral part of the city that one hardly considers them ‘foreign’ anymore.

This heritage walk will acquaint participants with the unique style and distinctive features of some of Pune’s colonial-era buildings. The walk will include a visit to St. Paul’s Church, Ohel David Synagogue and Mahatma Phule Mandai, where we will learn about the history, architecture and symbolism of these structures.

By the end of the walk, participants will be familiarised with the different aspects of Gothic architecture,  allowing them to appreciate other similar structures encountered across the city.

This guided tour is free.
