Every year, for a month, a part of central Calcutta transforms into a hub of activity. This is the month of Ramzan, when Muslims abstain from food and water throughout the day until dusk. It is only after Maghrib (dusk) prayers that one is allowed to break his or her fast, and that event is called iftar. The month of Ramzan brings to this normally busy neighbourhood an opportunity to indulge in gastronomic adventures like no other!
On this tour, we shall look, feel and taste the many varieties of food on offer. Passing through serpentine chaotic lanes and numerous stalls selling clothes, ittar (natural perfume), and other needs Ramzan, we shall look at its cultural significance, while savouring some of the choicest kebabs, fried chicken, haleem and perhaps some faluda to cool off.
This guided tour is free.
