When we talk about the Mughals, two or three cities come to mind—Agra, Delhi and Fatehpur Sikri. Though Varanasi is a holy city for Hindus, this place also has a few tombs and mausoleums built under the Mughal reign. Constructed in 1773, the tomb of Rauza Lal Khan (a warrior) is one of the oldest, but still relatively unknown, monuments in the city. The tomb is found near the Malviya Bridge (Dufferin Bridge), located right behind Khirkiya Ghat. The location and elevation of the tomb make it impossible to be spotted from the ghats, which is why very few people visit this place. The monument has a large dome, with four minarets at the corners of the structure. The patterned kiosks on the roof and the Mughal art on the pillars and walls have been telling the story of the Mughals for over two centuries.
