Hyderabad is celebrated as a centre of the Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb. Different traditions amalgamated over the years, leading to a fusion of cultures. Founded by the Qutub Shahi dynasty, the city has always welcomed people from different religions and regions. Abids, for ages, has been the centre for commercial activities. There are shops and business activities in the area but there are also hidden spaces of prominence one can't ignore. Abids has all the diversity of the city. It's majestic churches, temples, mosques, post office, hotels etc make Abids still the most visited place in Hyderabad.
The walk begins with the participants exploring the building of the Theosophical Society of Hyderabad. After this, we will reach the Parsi Fire Temple and view it from outside—where we will not only learn about the history of Parsis in India and Hyderabad but the Zoroastrian faith in general. The head priest, Edvard Mehernosh Bharucha, has kindly consented to share stories of the Parsis and their faith with the participants.
