The Kingdom of Mysore is an important component of the history of South India. The Mysore Palace was the seat of the Wadiyar dynasty, which ruled the Kingdom of Mysore from 1399 to 1761 and again from 1799 to 1947. It is one of the biggest historical buildings in India. The Wadiyars ruled here for over 400 years without a biological offspring.
One can imagine the riches of gold and silver, the fleets of elephants, horses and soldiers, upon visiting the palace. Large doors made of silver, the golden throne of the king, beautiful spiralling staircases, and the numerous paintings that tell the story of the Wadiyars lifestyle and the king’s reign are the charm of this grand monument.
While the dynasty and its rule have ended, the stories survive. On this walk, we shall explore these stories and other interesting facts about the palace, and discover how it is the result of a mixture of Mughal, Rajputana and Gothic architecture.
