A Walk with the Pardhis of Panna

About the walk

As the hunting guides to some of the greatest maharajas of all times, the Pardhis are excellent at deciphering the mysteries of the forest. Labelled a ‘criminal tribe’ during the British reign, the Pardhi community is still fighting for a respectable place in society even after the title of ‘criminal tribe’ was abolished. This walk is therefore an important approach to ease the stigma around them.

This is your chance to meet the world’s finest hunters and trackers. Hear the forest speak to you as the Pardhis mimic the sounds of the wild with utmost accuracy. Their deep and authentic understanding of local flora and fauna—including an in-depth knowledge of traditional herbs—has been passed down from generation to generation like an heirloom. Pardhi names are another interesting part of this community. In case you meet someone named Bisleri Pardhi or Airgun Pardhi, do stop to ask them about their unique names!

This is a custom walk and not open for registrations. In case interested please write at conservation@thelastwilderness.org
