Secunderabad was a result of the second Nizam and the British signing an alliance. The area was developed as a British cantonment and, with its churches and colonial history, is distinctly different from its older sibling Hyderabad. The area also has a handful of Irani cafes like Paradise, Garden and Alpha (now also restaurants), which have managed to survive, and continue to be spaces where Hyderabadis meet over cups of tea and biscuits.
So join us for a walk to understand why Irani tea is called so, and the history behind some of these Irani cafes. The walk shall also include the history of Secunderabad itself, as well as a visit to the historical St. Mary’s Basilica.
