One of the oldest and largest non-denominational cemeteries of the colonial era, the South Park Street Cemetery has the graves of the likes of Sir William Jones, Henry Louis Vivian Derozio, Colesworthey Grant as well as the tombstone of Walter Landor Dickens, the second son of Charles Dickens. Besides them, there are several other known and unknown characters, of varied ages from the colonial era, each with their own, individual fascinating stories and experiences about living and dying in eighteenth century Calcutta, ranging from scholars, linguists, pioneers, lovers to diplomats and soldiers with their exciting adventures. Their stories range from eccentric Indophiles to pioneering adventurists. Through this walk, we will try to relive the experiences of the life and times of that era.
