The Mysterious Datia Palace

About the walk

Situated on a hillock, Datia Palace, also known as Satkhanda Palace, is a grand seven-storeyed structure. It was built in the Indo-Islamic style by the ruler of Bundelkhand, Maharaja Bir Singh Deo, to welcome the Mughal emperor Jehangir. However, Jehangir never visited the palace, nor did the royals of Bundelkhand even live there.

The palace is constructed out of stone and bricks, without the support of wood or iron. It has 440 rooms and courtyards. The walls of the palace are decorated with murals and paintings. The beautiful entrances, vast courtyards, elegant windows, stunning views of the city and paintings on the walls are some of the incredible attractions found at Datia Palace.

The guided tour is free.
