A walk through the street of Meghalaya’s Nongsawlia will take us back in time to when the British once settled. Thomas Jones, a welsh Christian missionary, established the northeast’s first ‘Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church’ in Sohra. He had come to the Khasi Hills in 1841
Today at Nongsawlia stands one of the oldest Presbyterian Church in Meghalaya, which was established in the year 1846 by the Welsh Missionaries. Remnants of the first Church Building is located on the hill of the present Nongsawlia Cemetery. Many missionaries were laid to rest here, including the wife of Thomas Jones. The Thomas Jones School of Mission was also established in 1886 in his memory.
The walk will start from the Presbyterian Church, covering the cemetery and the remnants of the old church. It will end at the Thomas Jones School of Mission.
This guided- physical walk is a custom tour for the students of St. John Bosco Boys School, Sohra. This walk is not open to others.
