In this walk, we will explore the histories of the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum, Raipur. Located in the heart of the city, the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum is a major centre of culture and education. The museum has a unique identity in the fields of history, archaeology, art and culture studies. In 1875, this museum was established in Raipur by King Mahant Ghasidas of the Rajnandgaon principality. It is one of India’s ten oldest museums. The new museum was constructed with the valuable contribution of Queen Jyoty Devi Rajnandgaon. It was inaugurated by India’s first president Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1953.
In this walk, we will focus on Indian art and iconography and discuss its elements. The walk will be a guided experience for participants to learn about ancient Indian history, culture and archaeology in great detail.
