Jawaharlal Nehru called Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) a jewel among India's public sector undertakings (PSUs). Established in 1953 under the First Five Year Plans, its diverse units ranged from tractors, ball bearings, and watches to dairy processing equipment and bulbs.
The visit to the museum will take us on a tour of the impressive watch collection and engineering marvels produced by HMT. Visitors can study the smallest parts of machines with the help of magnifying glasses and microscopes. A card punching machine, generally used for recording employees' attendance, now provides souvenirs for visitors to take home. We shall also watch an informative documentary on HMT's 70-year history, India's industrial revolution, and the ads and jingles of the 90s. Visitors can also take a joy ride on a tractor for a nominal charge, or pick up a watch from the souvenir shop in the museum premises.
This guided tour is free.
