A Trek to the Nohkalikai Falls

About the walk

Nohkalikai is the longest plunge waterfall in India. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls with a moving story behind it.

Legend has it that Likai, a young lady who stayed in the village of Rangjyrteh who later remarried, had a daughter from her earlier marriage. Her new husband was not in favour of the little girl staying with them, and decided to kill her out of jealousy. Out for work one day, on returning home, Likai discovered to her surprise that her husband had prepared a meal for her and later discovered her daughter's fingernails in the beetle nut basket.

On realising what had happened, with anger and grief, she ran off the edge of the waterfall. And hence the name, Nohkalikai. Nohkalikai means 'the leap of Likai'.

This guided tour is free.
