The Ada and Ubha Bazaars are primary streets in the walled city of Jodhpur, used for commercial, residential, religious and social purposes. Since ancient times, these marketplaces have been an important part of the city. Today, they not only contribute to the economy of the city, but are also tourist attractions. This bazaar region contributes close to a million dollars in profit per week to the city.
It has been known to be difficult for the people of traditional towns like Jodhpur to reorient themselves with the 'modern times'. Thus, vernacular towns like Jodhpur have lagged behind in many aspects of social change in modern India.
