The uniqueness of the South Park Street Cemetery rests on the fact that it is possibly one of the oldest cemeteries that is not connected to a church, and is probably the largest Christian cemetery outside Europe and America from the nineteenth century. Established in 1767 and used actively till the 1830s, today it is no longer in use. The eight-acre expanse consists of around 1900 tombs and graves, and is walled by a thick high brick fort. It is a quiet and crumbling British graveyard and a haunting relic of an unforgiving past.
