A colonial city with an indigenous population, Kolkata is the centre of India's cultural landscape. Among its many qualities, is the ability to embrace the modern and upcoming, while adhering to the existential and bygone.
The duality of this narrative is the essence of Kolkata's character, as well as its political, social, financial, demographic and architectural spaces. The Kolkata Architecture Foundation wishes to focus on enriching Kolkata’s public spaces and heritage structures through the responsible interplay of contemporary best practices--both Indian and global.
The walk will cover Park Street, a part of the colonial city that is rapidly transforming into a premier architectural and cultural destination. On the occasion of World Heritage Day, the cultural transformation of an urban heritage area, and its status under threat from ongoing development, will be the focus the walk.
