The Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Orchha is indeed an art gallery. Built during the golden period of Maharaja Bir Singh Deo, this temple is unlike any other temple in the world. As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, but initially there was no idol of the goddess inside the temple; an idol was placed within the sanctum sanctorum only later. The structure displays a mix of temple and fort architecture thus giving it a unique appearance. There are frescoes and murals within the temple complex which showcase a blend of both Mughal and Bundela forms of art.
Today, the temple displays clay paintings by the local women of the Ganj Mohalla to promote the tribal art of the village.
Opposite the temple one can also find the amazing Mallanimli Baobab, which, according to locals, is the only tree of its kind in the world!
