Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, in Guwahati, has been a part of the lives of the residents of the city and a major tourist attraction ever since its inauguration in 1998. Kalashetra seems like it was built ahead of its time--it was an example of how a museum premises develops into a cultural complex, thus serving its name. On weekend evenings, children participate in activities such as competitions, local fairs, dance, and music, etc.
On this post-lunch Sunday stroll, let us take a walk through the hillock around which the Kalashetra has been developed. The site has miniature replicas of different ethnic groups of the state, as well as other important artefacts.
This guided tour is free.
