Bidri Work: A hands-on introduction for Children

About the walk

This event is ticketed.

The rich art of Bidar or bidri, is a legacy that has been carried forward for more than 400 years. One of the luxury craft products produced in the Deccan, Bidri metal work is known for its black colour which acts as a perfect foil to the flashing silver and flecks of brass which are incised on its surface. Its striking silver inlay work was once found on objects such as huqqahs, basins, trays and paan boxes, it now decorates jewelry items such as pendants, bangles and earrings.

We welcome your kids and you to join us for a visit to a Bidri workshop in the heart of Hyderabad. The interaction would include seeing the artisans at work, speaking with them and finding out about their lives, their routines, what it takes to do this work and learning about the connection of Bidri work with the history of Hyderabad.

There will be conversations on the journey of Bidri from Bidar to Hyderabad and understanding the intricate process of this exquisite art. Some of you may even try your hand at filing or applying oil on some of the artefacts!
